Third grade teachers recognize that if we want our students to learn, we must show them how. We realize that a one-size-fits-all approach to classroom instruction is ineffective for most students. Our teachers work together as a team to differentiate instruction and share strategies to meet students' educational needs. During the reading block students are engaged in reading while using a variety of strategies to grasp the standards being taught. In math, students focus on mathematical operations--addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division--while learning how to apply the operations during problem solving activities.
Each grading period students earn letter grades in reading, English, and mathematics. The grading scale for Third Grade is:
A 90% - 100%
B 80% - 89%
C 70% - 79%
D 60% - 69%
F 59% or less
In the second and fourth grading periods Social Studies and Science are evaluated using a scale of S, N, or U where S=satisfactory, N=needs improvement, and U=unsatisfactory.
Our day is jam-packed with learning activities. Remember, an empty chair can NOT learn, and each minute of instruction is crucial to your child's development.
